Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The 2026 legislative session starts Monday, Jan. 12, and will run for 60 days. As we begin, I’m genuinely optimistic about the work ahead. I’m bringing forward bills focused on safety, wildfire prevention, and affordability; the issues that matter deeply to people across Washington.
We live in an extraordinary state, defined by natural beauty found nowhere else in the country. But over the past decade, certain policy decisions have made life more challenging for many families. Washington now faces some of the highest gas prices, housing costs, and overall cost of living in the nation.

These challenges demand responsible, solutions-focused leadership. If we want a better future, we must work together to shape practical, effective policies.
Washington is my home, and I believe in its potential. I want it to remain a place where people come to enjoy its beauty and build a life where they can live, work, and raise their families with confidence in the future.
My commitment this session is to help restore that promise. By being good stewards of our resources and making thoughtful, practical decisions, we can build a Washington that is vibrant and affordable for everyone. When we work together, we can create the kind of future every Washingtonian deserves.
Over the next several months, I will keep you updated on what’s happening in Olympia as I work to make life better for the 17th District and for people across Washington.
Making Life More Affordable
As I mentioned, I will be working on several priorities this session. The most urgent issue we face is affordability. Lately, there has been a lot of blame for rising costs on events happening in Washington, D.C. However, many of the price increases Washingtonians are experiencing stem from policies passed in Olympia.
Despite passing the largest tax increase in state history last year, some legislators are already discussing additional taxes. Washingtonians need relief, not more financial burdens through new taxes and fees.
State Supplemental Spending Budgets
This session, the Legislature will craft the supplemental operating, transportation, and capital budgets. As with last year, a major point of debate will be the state’s ongoing operating budget shortfall. The governor has said his budget will focus on cuts rather than tax increases. Although last year’s budget ultimately included higher revenues than initially expected, this year offers a fresh opportunity to pursue thoughtful, sustainable fiscal solutions.
Committee Assignments
This session, I will continue to serve on four House committees: Environment and Energy, Health Care and Wellness, and Transportation committees, as well as the assistant ranking Republican member on the Local Government Committee.
