Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The 2025 session is officially underway. I took the oath of office on Monday, Jan. 13, to be your state representative in the Washington Legislature. Throughout the next several months, I will be sending you important updates on what’s happening in Olympia as I work to represent everyone in the 17th Legislative District. I’m excited to collaborate with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle as we work for the best solutions for everyone in Washington.

My Priorities

I will be focused on several issues during the 2025 legislative session, including these top Republican priorities:

Making communities safer – Crime continues to surge in our communities and throughout Washington. Criminals feel emboldened, while law enforcement feels unsupported because of the police reform bills passed by the majority party. Republicans continue offering multiple viable solutions. I strongly support our law enforcement and legislation that enables them to do their job.

Reducing the cost of living – despite record tax collections, the majority party has offered no real tax relief. Instead, they continue passing policies that make life more expensive for Washingtonians. At the same time, House Republicans continue fighting for tax relief that would help struggling families. Fixing our housing crisis – Washington is producing the fewest housing units per household of any state in the country due to a variety of factors. House Republicans are trying to eliminate barriers so more people can find and live in affordable homes.

Empowering all families – With our education system continuing to suffer from various shortfalls, it has never been more important for parents to know what is happening in their children’s classrooms. I understand the important role of education in children’s lives. We have great teachers in our communities, but we need to continue empowering parents, so they know what is being taught in their children’s classrooms and what is being decided by their school boards.

State Spending Budgets

During this session, the Legislature will create and pass the state’s two-year operating, transportation, and capital budgets. One of the biggest discussions will revolve around the state’s projected operating budget shortfall. While some news outlets report an estimated $10-12 billion gap, more conservative estimates suggest a shortfall of around $6.7 billion. However, this is not a revenue problem—tax collections have surged by 103% since 2014, reaching $36.4 billion in 2023. Raising taxes is not the answer. Instead, state government needs to control its spending. I will keep you posted as the budget process moves forward.

Committee Assignments

I will be on four House committees in my first term in the Legislature, including serving as the assistant ranking Republican member of the Local Government Committee. I will also serve on the Environment and Energy, Health Care and Wellness, and Transportation committees.
